Setup Hardware SOS

Talk to your team leader

Talk to your team leader and ensure that your Hardware SOS setting is turned on in the SafeTeam administration website and that your phone model supports the SafeTeam Hardware SOS.

Most users will have this setting turned off by default.

Disable Google Assistant Quick Launch

If you have enabled Hardware SOS for SafeTeam, you must ensure that no other actions are bound to the device power button of your phone, they may interfere with Hardware SOS normal operation. Some Android phones, including the ‘Motorola One Macro’, will use the power button to trigger certain features, like Google Assistant.

To disable Motorola’s Google Assistant power button trigger, follow the steps below,

Open the settings app by clicking the settings icon highlighted below.

Navigate to System and then Gestures.

Once you're in the gestures menu, you need to tap "Double-press power key" this will open a dialog and you can then select "none".

4. At this point you should be able to test the hardware sos, and no longer have interference from the double click gesture.

Disable Camera Quick Launch

If you have enabled Hardware SOS for SafeTeam, you must ensure that no other actions are bound to the device power button of your phone, they may interfere with Hardware SOS normal operation. Some Android phones show the camera when tapping the power button.

The setting(s) may appear in a different place depending on your version of Android and your phone model. Upgrading your Android version may reset the settings, so always check the settings after upgrading Android.


Please check these common locations and disable the setting.

1. (Android 16) Settings>Gestures>Physical Key>Power Button>Double Press

2. (Android 16) Settings>Gestures>Kinetic Gestures>Quick Launch

3. (Android 12 and 13) Settings > System > Gestures > Quickly open camera / Jump to camera

4. (Android 9, 10 and 11) Settings > System > Gestures > Power key behaviour > Launch camera

(Samsung S9 Android 10) Open the camera app > Settings cog > Quick Launch(Turn off)

6. Settings > system-languages and input > advanced > jump to camera

Settings > Display > Press power button twice for camera

8. Settings > Advanced Features > Side Key (Turn off double press)

Disable Android Emergency Settings

If you have enabled Hardware SOS for SafeTeam, you must ensure that no other actions are bound to the device power button of your phone, they may interfere with Hardware SOS normal operation. Some phones running Android 12 and above start a call to 999 when tapping the power button.

To disable Pixel's emergency feature, please follow these instructions

To disable Samsung’s emergency feature, please follow these instructions from Samsung.

It is not possible to disable emergency feature on some models of Samsung as detailed here. This may affect Samsungs with Android 13 running One UI 5.1 or higher.

Quick Load Safe Team for Phones that don't support Hardware SOS

For phones that don't support Hardware SOS, such as the Galaxy Samsung A14, it may be possible to open the safe team app by clicking the side button twice (depending on the version of Android you are running).

This Feature of your phone Operating System SHOULD NOT be used on a phone that has hardware SOS enabled as it will stop hardware SOS from working.

SafeTeam Guardian does not provide or support this feature for you, it is provided by the phone's operating system.

To set this feature up

  • Go to Settings>Advanced Features>Side Button>Double Press

  • Change setting to "Open App"

  • Choose the Safe Team App

Once the setting is saved clicking the power button twice should automatically load the Safe Team App on your screen were you can use the In-App SOS button.

To help this feature work as expected you may also like to;

  • Setup face ID on the Phone

  • Ensure that you are logged into the Safe Team Mobile App

  • Ensure that you go on duty at the start of your shift and off duty at the end of your shift
